V2 Rocket Crew part 4

Heidi: "Wow, Dieter, this is so much fun. Can we go faster?" Dieter: "NO!"

Dieter: "We will stop here and check out the integrity of the beach obstacles" Heidi: "Oh.... um...that sounds exciting"

Dieter: "Well, the obstacles look OK. Look at that horizon, so peaceful on the first day of June. Heidi: "Hmmm, the rest of 1944 is going to be interesting isn't it Dieter?" Dieter: "The calm before the storm".

Heidi: "I feel sorry about the chateau art work being taken away like that. I dont feel comfortable with a lot of things we do" Dieter: "Its war, not much makes any sense at all. When its over we can undo the damage, restore Europe to its former glory..."

Dieter: "The works of art will be safer in Berlin than here when the Allies bomb everything to bits before they make a landing". Heidi: "But the map, it says Calais for the point of the attack?"

Dieter: "The Kommandant was wrong. The map is fake. Its not Calais, in fact we dont know where the invasion will begin. But it will happen probably along this coast somewhere. Whats worse, Berlin believes it! Now we have no armored support to protect us"

Heidi: "Ok, lets go rest in the sand for a while" Dieter: "OK".

Heidi: "If you dont mind me asking why did you join as a medic instead of taking a commission. Your family is very influential in Germany? Excuse me, I need to take my boots off, my feet are getting hot"

Dieter: "My father and I had a disagreement on Germany's future. He saw it necessary to extend our borders and I did not. I think we can become successful and influential on our own efforts. We were I think politically divided as well. So I left home".

Heidi: "Your family does supply half the German army with boots. "The Marlene Boot Company". And now mine are falling apart and I cant get new ones. I cant even get stockings now, these are my last pair." Deiter: "Those are JF Ryan boots, not ours". Heidi: "OK, time to dip toes in the water, coming?" Dieter: "No thanks"

Heidi: "So beautiful and tranquil, the 1st of June 1944. May all the days of June be like this".
